Clear Chrome and Spotify caches on Mac

Start with Chrome’s cached images and files or Spotify’s cache controls. If you still need space, review individual websites and offline downloads before removing anything else.

Last updated:

Clear Chrome cache without selecting cookies

  1. Open Chrome’s three-dot menu and choose Delete browsing data.
  2. Choose a time range and select Cached images and files.
  3. Deselect the other categories you want to keep, then confirm with Delete data.

Remove data for a specific website

  1. In Chrome, open Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies.
  2. Select See all site data and permissions.
  3. Search for the website you want to clear, delete its entry, and confirm.

This can sign you out of that website and remove its saved preferences. Save any work you need before deleting its data.

Find downloaded files and other large items

Open Finder and review the files you downloaded through Chrome. Keep the files you still need and remove only those you no longer want. Clearing Chrome’s download history leaves the actual files on your Mac.

If you still need to locate what is taking up space, find large files on your Mac.

Clear Spotify cache

  1. In Spotify, click your profile picture and choose Settings.
  2. Scroll to Storage.
  3. Click Clear cache.

Remove Spotify downloads you no longer need offline

  1. Open Your Library in Spotify.
  2. Open a downloaded album or playlist you no longer need offline.
  3. Click its green download arrow to remove the download.

You will need an internet connection to stream that music or download it again.

Check available space again

Compare your Mac’s available storage before and after. To identify other files, scan your Mac’s storage and review the paths, sizes and cleanup reasons.
